Volleyball Season Wrap-up

GRADE 7 GIRLS:

The Grade 7 Girl’s Volleyball team had a successful season, marked with tremendous growth for each individual and the team. Throughout the season, the girls enjoyed many impressive wins (including against some Grade 8 teams in a tournament), and they finished in fourth place in Tier 1 in the league. Each team member should be very proud of what they accomplished this year. Great job!

GRADE 7/8 BOYS:

The Grade 7/ 8 Boy’s Volleyball team showed a lot of improvement and development this season. A highlight of the season was winning the championship at the Holy Cross Collegiate tournament in Strathmore. The players finished up their season in November with a strong performance in the end of season playoffs, narrowly losing to the top ranked team from Calgary Christian School. They displayed great effort all year, and the group has limitless potential in the future.

GRADE 8 GIRLS:

The Grade 8 Girl’s Volleyball team had an exciting season. The team worked hard, showing tremendous improvement in their passing and setting ability. The players effectively implemented a 6-2 rotation and developed great positional skills. They took home silver in both of the tournaments they competed in, losing in a thrilling three set finals match in their tournament at Trinity Christian School.

Grade 8/9 Boys:

The Grade 8/9 Boys team showed significant growth in 2022. In tournament play they placed fourth at Bearspaw Christian School, second at the 16-team tournament at Ambrose University, and claimed gold in Strathmore. They followed up their tournament success with equal success in league play, qualifying for playoffs in Tier 1 for the first time. The team played incredibly well in the playoffs before falling 15-12 in the third game to claim silver – a notable achievement. The players worked as a cohesive unit and displayed some tremendous skills. Congratulations to everyone on a wonderful season.

Grade 9 Girls

The effort displayed by the Grade 9 Girl’s Volleyball team was evident throughout the season. They were introduced to a new playing structure, utilizing two setters and a libero; which allowed all team members to focus on their particular skills, positions and aspects of the game. They participated in three different tournaments, all of which were exciting and allowed for exceptional team growth. The team should be incredibly proud of their achievements and development this season! Congratulations!

Junior Varsity Girls:

Congratulations to the Junior Varsity Girl’s Volleyball team on an exciting season. The team finished second in the Dig Pink tournament and second in the CISAA league championships. The team showed a significant amount of improvement in skill development and always displayed first class sportsmanship. 

Coaches: Mr. Asmus, Mrs. Miller, and Ms. Gruenhage

Junior Varsity Boys:

The Junior Varsity Boys had a successful season. They played against teams with older players and were able to hold their own, finishing third overall in league play. The Oilfields Tournament in Black Diamond was a particular highlight, as the Wildcats were first overall! Though the semi-final for the league championship did not go their way, the boys worked hard to develop their skills, individually and collaboratively, throughout the year.

Senior Varsity Girls:

The Senior Varsity Girl’s Volleyball team had a terrific season placing 2nd at the Dig Pink tournament and 4th at the Olds High School tournament. After an impressive victory in the first round of the playoffs, the girls were able to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the competitive Tier 1 league. Three members of this team represented our school at the CISAA All-Star game.

Senior Varsity Boys:

The Senior Varsity Boys Volleyball team was one of the strongest boy’s volleyball teams in recent history. The team had a lot of success in league and tournament play. The team won the West Island College Invitational Tournament and tied for second place in the CISAA Tier 1 league. In the playoff tournament, the team was defeated in the semi-final round. The team will be remembered for their hard work, camaraderie, and athleticism.
