As the Executive Chef at Webber Academy, I, Thuy Le Luong, am dedicated to promoting healthy eating habits for all of the students at Webber Academy, including the Kindercentre. Our school is committed to “creating an environment of high expectations of achievement, behaviour and service”, which is why I believe the following changes are necessary in improving upon our students eating habits.
There will be many crucial changes made for the new school year in order to instil a healthy and nutritional culinary service for our students. Our lunch program will provide students with healthy, nutritious, organic meal options. Meals will be made fresh everyday with the finest organic produce, poultry, meat, dairy and whole grains available. Meals will also be prepared with ingredients from all different food groups to give our students the appropriate levels of nutrients throughout the day. Wylie's kitchen will be free of nuts, artificial colours or flavours, preservatives and trans fats. In addition, we will also carry a wide range of natural organic snacks and beverages.
Healthy cooking is more than food selection, it is also how the food is prepared. As a result, Wylie's kitchen will also be equipped with new Carico brand pots and pans. Carico pots and pans are made with surgical stainless steel, which is the most sanitary metal to come in contact with your food. Unlike aluminum pots and pans there is no chemical coating that may come off into the food. Carico cookware is equipped with Thermal Core technology, which allows heat to spread evenly and quickly throughout the cookware. The even heat conductivity makes it possible to cook meats and poultry without adding grease or fats. This technology also enables vegetables to cook in there own natural juices without adding water. This allows for the preserving of all the valuable vitamins and minerals that are normally destroyed or lost when you boil or steam food on high heat.
I look forward to providing meals that will make the school, the parents, the children, and the faculty happy.
