Music, choral and instrumental, is an intrinsic part of Webber Academy's academic programme. All students are actively encouraged to develop their musicianship and literacy skills through singing, speech, playing instruments, and movement. The Webber Academy music curriculum uses high quality repertoire from a wide range of styles and cultures and centres around the belief that all children are inherently musical.
The Webber Academy Choirs perform regularly throughout the academic year at school functions and local festivals. The Division One and Division Two Choirs have been invited to represent Calgary at the Alberta Provincial Music Festival on many occasions and both choirs have been the recipients of awards and scholarships at both the local and provincial levels.
Band Programme (Grades 7-12)
The Webber Academy Band programme consists of a progressive series of courses from Grades Seven to Twelve and teaches technical, theoretical, aesthetic and historical music concepts through performance on an instrument in a concert or jazz band setting. The programme is in it's 11th year, during which it has received recognition for outstanding performances at festivals from the local to the national levels. There are five ensembles, including the Grade 7 Concert Band, the Grades 8/9 Concert Band, the Senior High Wind Ensemble, the Junior High Jazz Band and the Senior High Jazz Ensemble. A number of concerts are planned throughout the year as well as the junior high band retreat at Camp Caroline.
The Band Programme participates in a variety of festivals, including the Southern Alberta International Band Festival, the Alberta Band Association Provincial Band Festival and on occasion, Musicfest Canada, the national music festival. During March of this year, the high school wind ensemble and jazz band will be travelling to Europe where they will visit Prague, Salzburg and Vienna.
