Part-Time Facility Operator-Handyperson


  Webber Academy is looking for a part-time Facility Operator / Handy Person

      Shifts would be a combination of evenings and weekends


Related work experience

·    Experience in drywall repair, painting and light carpentry.

·    Experience operating landscape maintenance equipment (Mowing, trimming, sod removal and replacement)

·    Experience operating snow removal equipment

·    Commercial and/or residential cleaning background is an asset  - Knowledge of cleaning products (chemicals) and familiarity cleaning equipment

Police Security Check with Vulnerable Sector search is mandatory

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Physically fit and able to lift and move objects (i.e. 50 lbs. or greater)

Able to complete WHIMIS Certification

Current First Aid and CPR Certification (or required within first three months of employment)

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

·    Works closely with program staff and informs of any issues or concerns in a positive manner

·    Keeps up facility grounds (lawn maintenance, watering, clearing sidewalks, garbage pick-up, snow removal, etc.)

·    Assists with facility maintenance (i.e. painting, repairs, department clean-up duties, annual maintenance projects, etc.)

·    Assists Building Operators as required and scheduled

·    Performs routine cleaning program in assigned areas of the facility to the identified standards

·    Initiates and carries out cleaning tasks as set by the Cleaning Manager Works in and around patrons safely, effectively and in a friendly manner

·    Ensures that all jobs are done in compliance with the instructions received, the work plan outlined and in the timeframes given

·    Works cooperatively with other facility staff and assists in their duties as requested by Managers or Supervisors

2.    Facility Cleaner & light maintenance (Evening Shift)

3.    Facility Cleaner & light maintenance (Day Shifts) 


Duties may include:

    Cleaning such as dusting, washing, sweeping, disinfecting and vacuuming

    Stripping, waxing and buffing floors

    Cleaning and restocking of washrooms

    Operating manual and powered cleaning equipment (Auto Scrubbers, Floor Polishers and Carpet Cleaner)

    Preparing and safely using cleaning chemicals and protective equipment when and where necessary

    Removal or Trash and Recycling

    Light grounds maintenance as required such as weeding, garbage collection and disposal

    May be asked to work weekends


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

    Take direction from supervisors and co-workers

    Responsible and capable of following procedures

    Ability to identify safety hazards

    High standards, Self-initiative and ability to work independently





Must be legal to work in Canada

Must pass Criminal Background Check

Must be able to undergo WHMIS training and write exam in English
