Webber Academy offers a highly sought after Junior and Senior Kindergarten programme.
Our Junior Kindergarten classes run Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., throughout the regular school year. The Junior Kindergarten programme is specifically designed for children turning 4 years old prior to December 31st of the year they will be enrolled in school. Children participate in play-based learning activities which develop their early literacy and numeracy skills and help foster social development. In addition, our Junior Kindergarten students benefit from separate classes in Music, Physical Education and Spanish.
No formal testing is completed for our youngest applicants; however, families who have submitted completed applications will be invited to attend an interview with the Director of Admissions. Junior Kindergarten applicants will also be invited to attend a 'play workshop'. Teachers and administration will be present during the workshop to make observations and determine an applicant’s readiness for our Junior Kindergarten programme. Attributes such as behaviour, language development, willingness to join others at play, participation in activities and social interaction are taken into consideration when making placement decisions. All students attending this assessment will be given priority for available placements.
For applicants to the 2018-19 Junior Kindergarten programme, interviews and class visits will take place from mid-October to early December 2017. We therefore recommend that applications are submitted by the end of September 2017. Spaces are limited and the date of application is considered, as long as your child meets our admissions criterion.
Children who will not turn 4 before December 31st must apply for the following school year.
Webber Academy has three full-day classes of Senior Kindergarten and is open to candidates turning 5 years old prior to December 31st of the year they will be enrolled in school. Currently enrolled Webber Academy Junior Kindergarten students will be given priority for these placements before assessing new applicants.
Suitable applicants to the Senior Kindergarten programme will initially be invited to the school to complete the AABL (Admission Assessment for Beginning Learners) which is appropriate to the grade they are applying to. The AABL is administered using iPads and assesses a child’s verbal and quantitative reasoning, early literacy, and mathematics skills. For further information about the AABL please refer to the following link: https://www.erblearn.org/services/aabl-overview
Once we have the results of the AABL applicants may be invited to the school for a class visit, as and when spaces become available.
